Taiwan-based LED chip makers and packaging houses are generally optimistic about their business operations in the second quarter of 2014 mainly due to strong demand from LCD TVs and mobile terminal devices, and in lighting, according to some LED companies.

Most LED companies have order visibility of 1.5 months, the sources indicated.

Epistar, the largest LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker, saw consolidated revenues for the first quarter of 2014 increase more than 40% on year, and expects sequential growth in second-quarter consolidated revenues, the sources noted.

For LED chips used in lighting, Taiwan-based makers have shifted marketing from China to other emerging markets because China-based makers have triggered price competition, the sources said.
